Morningstar ProStar MPPT™ Solar Charge Controller
The purpose of a solar charger is to collect energy from the solar panels and store it in the batteries. The Prostar MPPT solar charge controller is an advanced maximum power point tracking (MPPT) battery charger for off-grid photovoltaic (PV) systems up to 1100 watts. All versions include load control and TrakStar™ Technology to maximize PV efficiency and energy harvest.

Why You Need an MPPT Charge Controller for Your Solar System
There are two types of solar charge controllers on the market: MPPT (maximum power point tracking) and PWM (pulse-width modulation). The type of charge controller you need depends on the prevailing solar conditions you expect to encounter. MPPT controllers convert more energy into useable electricity and are best suited for areas where seasonal, weather, and shading conditions can cause significant variations in solar harvesting. MPPT controllers are ideal for mobile or off-grid solar applications such as on a campervan, RV, remote cabin, or tiny houses.
PWM controllers are less efficient than MPPTs and are best suited for large stationary systems with consistent sunlight, minimal shading, and no physical space limitations. PWM controllers are not generally a great fit for campervans or RVs. So for your van conversion we recommend an MPPT charge controller.

Fanless design promotes long-term reliability because there are no moving parts to fail. Additionally, the no-fan design eliminates parasitic load to enhance efficiency and reduces the amount of dirt and debris getting into the controller.
